The idea of being able to reinterpret such an everyday functional object as a pair of spectacles, stimulated me right from the start. The society we live in today is leaving less room for playful activities. With the pressure of work, the frenetic pace of our cities have led us to forget the importance of play for human beings. This made me think of a frame that when needed, can transform itself into a ‘Tangram’. This is a thousand-year-old game whose aim is to create complex shapes using only their outline. I made use of the game’s compositional principles, then adapted them to create a spectacle frame consisting of modules linked together with dovetail joints. Once they are taken apart, they form the pieces you can use to play my own particular version of ‘Tangram’.
